The China-Laos Railway will allow visa-free entry for foreigners to increase by 48% year-on-year in 2025

According to the Yunnan Province Mohan Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station, in 2025, the China-Laos Railway will inspect a total of more than 290,000 entry-exit personnel from 110 countries and regions around the world. Among the entry and exit personnel, there were more than 50,000 foreign nationals, a year-on-year increase of over 34%, of which more than 13,400 foreign nationals entered visa-free, a year-on-year increase of 48%.

Mohan Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station introduced that since the opening of the China-Laos Railway international passenger trains on April 13, 2023, as of December 31, 2025, a total of more than 2,800 cross-border international passenger trains have been inspected and released from 123 countries and regions. The area has more than 710,000 entry and exit personnel, and more than 55,000 foreign nationals have been inspected and released, including more than 24,000 foreign nationals entering visa-free. The number of tourists from Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia ranks in the top three. The top reasons for entry are sightseeing, business meetings, and visiting relatives and friends.

In order to facilitate cross-border travel for passengers, the Mohan Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station continues to innovate service models, optimize police deployment and customs clearance procedures, launch online appointment clearance for inbound tour groups, 24-hour barrier-free customs clearance, open dedicated "Belt and Road" channels and visa-free channels, set up on-site "consultation mobile stations", and implement more than 10 customs clearance measures to facilitate and benefit the people, such as online filling in of foreign entry cards, effectively ensuring smooth, fast and orderly customs clearance at the port.
