On December 3, the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy Consulting of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Documentation and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Clarivate jointly held the 2025 Research Frontier Release and Seminar in Beijing. The "2025 Research Frontiers" report and the "2025 Research Frontiers Heat Index" report released at the conference showed that my country's research frontier heat indexes in six fields ranked first in the world.
The "2025 Research Fronts" is based on 13,318 research fronts in the ESI (Essential Science Index Database), and selects and displays the 2025 research fronts in agricultural sciences, botany and zoology, ecology and environmental sciences, earth sciences, clinical medicine, and biological sciences. , 110 hot frontiers and 18 emerging frontiers in 11 highly aggregated large subject fields, including chemistry and materials science, physics, astronomy and astrophysics, mathematics, information science, economics, psychology and other social sciences, more objectively reflect the development trends of related disciplines. The "2025 Research Front Heat Index" is based on the "2025 Research Front" and evaluates the performance of China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada in the above-mentioned research fronts.
The report shows that based on the overall performance of 11 major scientific fields, the United States continues to top the list, ranking first in half of the research fronts; China ranks second, ranking first in more than 40% of the research fronts; the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada rank third to fifth.
“China ranks first in the research frontier popularity index in 6 fields, and the United States ranks first in 5 fields. The two countries jointly have the highest scores in all fields.” Yang Fan, deputy director of the Institute of Strategic Intelligence of the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy Consulting of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that China ranks first in agricultural sciences, The research frontier popularity index in the fields of botany and zoology, ecology and environmental science, chemistry and materials science, physics, information science, economics, psychology and other social sciences ranks first, showing that the research foundation in these fields is solid, frontier exploration is active, and academic influence is outstanding.
"China ranks second in the fields of earth sciences, biological sciences and mathematics, and the overall progress is obvious to all; it has continued to make progress in clinical medicine, astronomy and astrophysics, and has now entered the top five in the world." Yang Fan said that overall, the United States is still the most active country, and China continues to rank second, but the gap between China and the United States continues to narrow.
