Xinhua News Agency, Xiamen, January 16th. On January 16th, the 10th meeting of the China-Philippines Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) was held in Xiamen, Fujian. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and Philippine Vice Foreign Minister Lazaro jointly chaired the meeting.
The two sides exchanged views frankly and constructively on the situation in the South China Sea. China has made solemn representations on the Philippines' recent maritime infringement and provocation activities and speculation of China-Philippines disputes, and demanded that the Philippines strictly abide by the provisions of the "Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea", insist on compromising differences with China through dialogue and consultation, jointly manage the maritime situation, and promote bilateral relations to return to the right track as soon as possible.
The two sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea, believing that this is in line with the common interests of regional countries, including China and the Philippines, and agreed to strengthen dialogue, communicate and contacts on sea, properly handle maritime conflicts and differences, and continue to promote practical cooperation in sea-related areas such as coast guards, marine science and technology and environmental protection.
Representatives from China and the Philippines' diplomatic, national defense, natural resources, coast guard and other departments attended the meeting.
