CCTV News: The 54th Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival is being held in Jiangtan Park, Chengdu Hi-tech Zone. The Lantern Festival combines traditional and modern elements to bring tourists a feast of light and shadow.

At this year's Lantern Festival, intangible cultural heritage lanterns incorporate elements such as poetry culture, four seasons of scenery, Chengdu allusions, and light and shadow flowers to reproduce the grand scene of Du Fu's "flowers are heavy in brocade official city".

In addition to traditional lanterns, Chengdu has also cooperated with the Central Academy of Fine Arts to create a number of art installations with modern public art concepts and new technologies such as 3D light and shadow animation, upgrading the traditional lantern festival to a "immersive art exhibition" of light and shadow. Visitors can not only combine Fuxi and Nuwa panda lamps created by new materials, but also interact with the new art installation "Hot Bill" that can talk and heat, and can also watch the water curtain projection of the themes of Jinsha and Sanxingdui.

Ma Juncheng, dean of the Urban Design School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, said: "The static display of the traditional intangible cultural heritage lantern festival has been introduced into a dynamic interpretation of light and shadow art. Some netizens say it is like a time and space tunnel, where we can drink with the ancients and feel the changes in history. Through the form of image interaction, I think such exploration is worth studying."

Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival creates artistic IP around "panda, light and shadow, and social attributes". Through new materials and new technologies, traditional intangible cultural heritage lanterns are rejuvenated, attracting more young people's attention, and has also caused heated discussion on social media.

Ma Juncheng said: "Intangible cultural heritage is the crystallization of wisdom of the ancients. To better convey its cultural genes, we need to keep pace with the times and reflect the wisdom of contemporary people in inheritance and innovation. Therefore, by adding dynamic demonstrations to the traditional lantern festival, the application of new materials, digital materials, digital languages, such as 3D printing, has actually enriched the modeling and artistic expression language of the intangible cultural heritage lantern festival."

This year's Lantern Festival links the two major consumption scenarios of "Night Tour of Jinjiang" and "Ice and Snow Carnival", and introduces 72 special cultural and creative, catering, and digital entertainment merchants, enriching tourists' consumption choices and creating a strong New Year atmosphere.

This Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival will last until March 9, and is expected to attract 600,000 tourists and drive surrounding consumption of 250 million yuan.
