"Mom! I heard... Uncle Wang and the others... are here..." As the Spring Festival approaches, brother Wang Gang and Feng Weimin go to visit a special "relative". As soon as they knock on the door, there is a scattered intermittent babbling sound from the room.
As the door opened, mother Zhang Jingxia pulled Wang Gang into the living room and enthusiastically brought out melon seeds and peanuts to entertain guests. Zhang Qiang and Zhang Wei, the twin sisters, lying on a small stool, waving their hands to welcome...
On January 16, in a residential community in Qilihe District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, a reporter from Workers' Daily followed Wang Gang to "relatives". The scene before them is warm and peaceful. However, as they open up the topic, a story of a people who love life, live tenaciously, and help each other slowly unfolds: in the story there is a mother who never gives up, a taxi fleet that fights for life, and a group of volunteers who warm life with love.
"This sister Zhang is very strong. Every time she sees her, she will think of our mother and feel the greatness of maternal love..." Feng Weimin is the captain of the Lanzhou Jixiang Leifeng Motor Company. After hearing the story of Zhang Jingxia's family 7 years ago, she often visits her, sending rice, noodles, oil, milk and other daily necessities to this disabled and difficult family, and pulling the "Rose Sisters" with congenital cerebral palsy to the bank of the Yellow River and to the park to see the scenery and enjoy the flowers.
The life of the "Rose Sisters" began 35 years ago. That year, 25-year-old female worker Zhang Jingxia, who was 7 months pregnant, unfortunately gave birth to premature birth when she was 7 months pregnant and gave birth to her sister Zhang Qiang. Ten minutes later, her sister Zhang Wei came to the world.
"I was just born, only as big as my palm." At the beginning, the "Rose Sisters" weighed less than 4 kilograms. After that, I had a turn to have cold and pneumonia. When I was over 1 year old, I was officially diagnosed with congenital cerebral palsy.
"In those years, life was really hit by one after another." Zhang Jingxia recalled that she was laid off and unemployed, and her husband left without saying goodbye, and she took care of her children alone. Later, with the establishment of the minimum living security system for urban residents, the family received social relief with the help of the community, and basic food and clothing were solved.
"Sister Zhang and the two girls are both very strong." As one of the heads of the Lei Feng team, Wang Gang recalled the first time he met the "Rose Sisters". Zhang Jingxia was giving Zhang Qiang massage, and Zhang Wei next to her was doing exercises. She was so tired that she was sweating when she turned around and raised her hands. Even so, the sisters insisted on awakening their stiff bodies bit by bit.
The "Rose Sisters" were still able to carry them out when they were young. When they were in their 20s, their weight had reached more than 90 kilograms. At this time, Zhang Jingxia could no longer hold them. Fortunately, at this time, Lei Feng's convoy knocked on their door, bringing warmth and confidence. Slowly, the sisters learned to walk with the help of a wheelchair and to learn to simply hand-painted splicing.
In the past two years, the "Rose Sisters" have begun to learn to recite Tang poetry. Recently, as long as the brother from Lei Feng's team came, the two sisters would whimper proudly.
Every holiday or child’s birthday, Lei Feng team members and volunteers will bring daily necessities and go to Zhang Jingxia’s house to make dumplings and eat cakes together to spend a simple and happy festival. Team members and volunteers become "special relatives" of this difficult family.
"Every time we see this family so tenacious, we are all healthy, so what reason is there to not work hard?" As the captain of Lei Feng team, Feng Weimin's life is actually quite difficult. At the age of 12, his father unfortunately passed away, and his mother supported the three brothers with her meager salary. When he grew up, he worked odd jobs in the factory and drove a truck through transportation. In 2016, he became a taxi driver.
In 2017, a car suddenly caught fire in front of the Asia-Europe building. Feng Weimin, who was driving, rushed forward to put out the fire and save people regardless of his safety. After the scene at that time was reported by local TV stations, some riders took the initiative to invite him to join the Lei Feng fleet.
Later, I met the family of "Rose Sisters". "The color of life has changed from then on." Feng Weimin said, "People only care about themselves, and life is a monochrome. Only by helping each other can it be colorful." "When I was a child, my mother was busy, but my neighbors took care of me and helped me. I grew up eating a hundred families of food." Feng Weimin said.
With a grateful heart, Feng Weimin began to participate in social welfare activities, and was later elected as the captain of the Lei Feng team, interpreting the "Lei Feng spirit" on the wheel with practical actions to help the disabled and the weak. During the Spring Festival travel rush and the college entrance examination, they organize charity convoys; when fighting the epidemic, they voluntarily pick up and drop off front-line medical staff every day. On December 18, 2023, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred in Jishishan County. Feng Weimin urgently assembled taxis and trucks to send urgently needed supplies to the disaster area...
In October 2024, Feng Weimin was elected as the "Top Ten Touching Traffic Figures of the Year in 2023" and was the only person on the list in Gansu Province. "This honor is for all the volunteers of our Lei Feng team," said Feng Weimin.
A volunteer named Liu Weixi, who was caring for and caring for the "Rose Sisters" with the "Lei Feng Convoy". His path to volunteer starts from childhood.
Liu Weixi recalled that her mother often said, "If you can, help me." She was very enthusiastic and popular in the village. She helped many families in need by running a grocery store. Although he has passed away for many years, when the villagers talk about being enthusiastic and helpful, they regard his mother as a role model.
"As the saying goes, if you can, help, this is the warm temperament engraved in the depths of the hearts of every Chinese," said Liu Weixi.
