CCTV News: According to the "Customs Release" official account, on April 4, the head of the Animal and Plant Inspection Department of the General Administration of Customs answered reporters' questions about the suspension of the qualifications for the import of sorghum and poultry bone meal products from four American companies.
Recently, Chinese customs detected zearalenone in sorghum sent to one U.S. company, far exceeding the maximum limit stipulated in the Feed Sanitary Standards (GB 13078-2017); Salmonella was detected in poultry bone meal feed from three U.S. companies, but they did not meet the above standards. Salmonella must not be detected.
Zearalenone is a mycotoxin produced by a variety of Fusarium, which can pose a threat to animal and human health, such as entering the food chain through feed. Salmonella is a zoonotic bacteria. Eating "bacterial" feed in animals will lead to decreased production performance or death. If consumers eat contaminated animal products, they will experience symptoms such as diarrhea, which will cause death in severe cases.
The person in charge said that in order to prevent risks from the source, ensure the safety of animal husbandry production and consumer health, the General Administration of Customs decided to suspend the qualifications of the four American companies involved in China from April 4, 2025. These measures are necessary, scientific and reasonable, and comply with relevant Chinese laws and regulations and international practices. China Customs will continue to strengthen the inspection and quarantine of imported agricultural and food products and resolutely protect the safety of the country.
