CCTV News: Recently, when staff from Huangpi Lake Wetland, Chaohu City, Hefei, Anhui Province conducted ecological monitoring, they recorded the clear images of the national "three-have" protected animal, red-mouthed duck for the first time.

It is understood that the red-billed duck is also called "big red head". As its name suggests, the male bird has a thick chestnut-colored "big back head", with red beak and eyes, while the female bird does not have these characteristics, which looks much lower-key. According to staff, the red-mouthed duck is mainly distributed in central and western my country. It has appeared in Bengbu, Anqing, Tongling and other places in Anhui Province. This is the first time it has been recorded in Hefei. In recent years, with the increasing protection of local ecological wetlands, it has provided a good habitat environment for bird populations and has continued to enrich biodiversity.

Liaohekou Wetland: From "retirement and return to wetness" to "ten thousand birds return to their nests"

Liaohekou Wetland in Panjin, Liaoning is an important stopping place, wintering place and breeding place in bird migration channels. With the "retirement and wetness", the efforts to restore wetlands have been continuously increasing, the ecological functions of wetlands have been significantly improved, and the number of populations of important species has increased significantly.

Since the end of February this year, the national first-class protected animal, the red-crowned cranes, have successively arrived at the Liaohekou Wetland, and so far there are more than 620. At present, the arrival of red-crowned crane has begun to enter the spawning period.

Including red-crowned cranes, 200,000 migratory birds have arrived at the Liaohekou Wetland this year. The choice of migratory birds to settle here is closely related to the "retirement and wetness" project of the wetlands over the years. In recent years, the Liaohekou Wetland has restored 85,900 mu of wetland area and 15.77 kilometers of natural coastline, giving birds that stop and live here a larger and more comfortable living circle.

Under the continuous erosion of more than a dozen rivers including the Liaohe River and Daling River, the Liaohekou wetland has formed large areas of mudflats and swamps, providing birds with places to live and forage. As the temperature gradually warms up, more and more migratory birds from north migratory birds such as black-billed gulls and oriental white storks have arrived one after another.
