China News Service, Beijing, March 6 (Li Botao) On March 5, the Third Session of the 14th National People's Congress opened in Beijing. The content related to Taiwan in this year's "Government Work Report" has attracted much attention, especially the sentence "Unswervingly advance the great cause of national reunification and work together to create the great cause of national rejuvenation". Warm applause broke out on the scene and caused public opinion responses on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Ji Xin, a Taiwanese unificationist and publisher of Taiwan's Observation magazine, told China News Service that the applause is not only a high recognition of the content of the report, but also a strong expectation for the reunification of the motherland.
She believes that the contents involving Taiwan in this year's Government Work Report are concise and pragmatic, and more three-dimensionally and clearly demonstrate the mainland's firm determination to fight "independence" and promote unification.
Ji Xin further stated that cross-strait reunification is a historical necessity. In this process, cracking down on and curbing the "Taiwan independence" forces that attempt to split Taiwan from the motherland is the key to safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"With the changes in cross-strait relations and the situation in the Taiwan Strait, the mainland has made the anti-'independence' work more targeted through various positive and effective methods." Ji Xin said that achieving the reunification of the motherland in a peaceful way is most in line with the fundamental interests of compatriots on both sides of the strait. "The mainland's work on Taiwan is not only to crack down on and curb the 'Taiwan independence' diehards, but more importantly, to do its best to achieve peaceful reunification."
Li Yihu, a member of the National People's Congress and director of the Taiwan Research Institute of Peking University, said in an interview with China News Service that to shape the general trend of inevitable reunification of the motherland, a very important point is to strengthen cross-strait civil exchanges and give full play to the role of coastal provinces such as Fujian in exchanges with Taiwan. Through these provinces’ close ties with Taiwan in many aspects such as geography, history, and culture, mutual understanding and trust among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will be enhanced, and a solid foundation for public opinion will be laid for realizing the reunification of the motherland.
