On April 29, President Xi Jinping made a special visit to the New Development Bank of the BRICS and met with New Development Bank President Rosef.

When meeting with Rousseff, President Xi Jinping recalled the process of the new development bank from its birth to its growth: "I have been paying attention to the development of the new development bank over the years."

In July 2014, during the sixth meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries, leaders of China and Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa witnessed the signing of the "Agreement for the Establishment of the New Development Bank" in Fortaleza, Brazil.

"I am honored to receive the respected President Xi Jinping at the Xinkai Bank headquarters today. I proudly recall that we announced the establishment of the New Development Bank to the world in 2014." Rosef, who was once the President of Brazil, said, "President Xi Jinping has promoted and witnessed the change of the New Development Bank from vision to reality."

Under the personal care and promotion of President Xi Jinping, the New Development Bank officially opened in Shanghai in July 2015, completing the transformation from concept to entity.

Over the past decade, the New Development Bank has approved 120 projects and a total loan amount of approximately US$40 billion, providing more financing options for southern countries around the world and truly supporting the unity and cooperation of developing countries. The official member states of the New Development Bank have also increased from the five countries at the beginning of its official operation to eight countries. Many countries have expressed their willingness to actively join.

Behind the vigorous development of the "Golden Decade" is the rising appeal and the continuous enhancement of the BRICS cooperation mechanism, the continuous improvement of the representativeness and voice of developing countries in the global governance system, and the tremendous force gathered by the collective rise of the global south.

Now, the global share of the global southern economy accounts for more than 40%, and its contribution to world economic growth reaches 80%. The once "inventory border area" of the world economy has become the most dynamic "incremental center". People are talking more and more about "Southern Awakening" and "Southern Rise".

How to go about the future? President Xi Jinping proposed:

We must practice our original aspirations, closely follow the development needs of the global south, and provide more high-quality, low-cost and sustainable infrastructure financing;

Enjoy internal skills, improve management and operations, implement more science and technology finance and green finance projects, help developing countries bridge the digital divide, accelerate green and low-carbon transformation;

Be pioneering and enterprising, amplify the voice of the global south in the discussion on international financial structure reform, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the global south, and support global southern countries to take the path of modernization.

Behind the earnest hope is China's commitment to strengthening global solidarity and cooperation between the South, enhancing the representation and voice of developing countries in global affairs, and promoting global common and sustainable development. It also demonstrates that China has great potential and broad space for cooperation with the vast number of southern countries.

At present, the world situation is turbulent and the international situation is changing. President Xi Jinping's trip clearly shows that the more he encounters a backward trend, the more we must persist in promoting open cooperation. Faced with the rapid changes in the external environment, China firmly stands on the right side of history and the trend of the times, unswervingly do its own thing well, responds to various uncertainties with the certainty of high-quality development, gathers the potential energy of unity and progress with the mind of open cooperation, and demonstrates the strong determination and surging momentum of major power development in the wind and waves, which will bring more confidence and strength to the world.
