The factory is located in the Lingang New Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, with a total area of about 200,000 square meters. It is Tesla's first energy storage super factory outside the United States. It is another large-scale investment project in China after the Shanghai Super Factory. It was officially started in May 2024 and was completed at the end of December of that year.
Tesla said that China's energy storage market has huge potential, and Shanghai energy storage super factory will also become a key growth engine for Tesla's global energy business.
