On February 7, President Xi Jinping and Colombian President Petro exchanged congratulatory messages to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in the 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia, the two sides have always adhered to the principles of equal treatment and mutual respect, and promoted the continuous development of bilateral relations. In October 2023, President Petro successfully paid a state visit to China. I held fruitful talks with the President and jointly announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries and led China-Colombia relations into a new era. Colombia is an important country in Latin America and will take over as the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin America and the Caribbean States this year. I attach great importance to the development of China-Colombia relations and am willing to work with the President to promote the deepening and practical China-Colombia strategic partnership and work together to build a community with a shared future between China and Latin America.

Petro said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Colombia and China, the development of bilateral relations has achieved fruitful results, benefiting the people of both countries. The two countries have frequent high-level visits, which has effectively promoted cooperation in various fields between the two countries and promoted mutual understanding between the peoples of both sides. After taking office as president, I paid a state visit to China, relations between the two countries continued to strengthen, and trade and investment continued to grow. Colombia is willing to work with China to jointly promote the global agenda of common concern to both sides, including world peace, energy transformation, and climate change response.
